Assistant Astronomer
Volunteer Role
Are you passionate about astronomy and eager to inspire others? We’re looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team of Lead Astronomers at the observatory.
What you’ll do:
- Assist with opening and closing the observatory
- Present an introduction at the start of events
- Operate a Dobsonian telescope to engage visitors
- Commit to volunteering at least twice per month
REQUIRMENTS
- Strong communication and soft skills
- Good customer-facing abilities
- A genuine passion for astronomy and space
- Must be Year 11 or above

Are you a student or aspiring astronomer looking to gain hands-on experience in a real observatory setting? Our work experience program offers a unique opportunity to develop skills, work alongside experienced astronomers, and inspire the public.
What you’ll do:

- Help deliver introductions and presentations at events
- Learn to operate Dobsonian telescopes and engage visitors
- Commit to a short-term placement with flexible scheduling
