Shooting Stars - The Leonids
There’s nothing quite like watching a shooting star blaze across one of the darkest skies in England. Except, perhaps, spotting dozens at once during the peak of the Leonid meteor shower.
Join us at Allenheads Observatory at ACA, under some of the darkest skies in the UK, for a two-hour stargazing adventure filled with meteors.
The Leonids race across the sky as fast, bright streaks. Some leave glowing trails that hang in the darkness. Their intensity shifts from year to year, but they always deliver awe and wonder to November nights.
Our astronomers will guide you through the science of shooting stars – how they appear, when and where to find them, and why meteor showers create such dazzling shows. With telescopes, binoculars, and naked-eye tours, you’ll also explore constellations, planets, and the Milky Way while keeping watch for meteors overhead.
Between sky tours, sip hot drinks, enjoy snacks, and hold a 4.6-billion-year-old meteorite in your hands. Step into our heated indoor space for interactive digital astronomy sessions. Whether you come to make a wish or to marvel at the cosmos, you’ll leave with unforgettable memories.
